Fatality reported at Marikana mine
Platinum miner Lonmin plc (LON) disclosed on Monday that an employee had been killed in an accident at the company’s Rowland shaft on Friday.

It said management had immediately stopped the shaft‚ informed the Department of Minerals and Resources (DMR) and began an investigation.

The shaft would remain closed until that investigation‚ which was being undertaken in partnership with all stakeholders‚ was complete‚ it said.

CEO Ian Farmer said: “On behalf of the whole Company I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of our colleague who has died. Safety is our absolute number one priority and we will work with stakeholders to determine the cause of this tragic incident as quickly as possible.” - I-Net Bridge
